Penally residents were delighted on Tuesday to witness Pembrokeshire County Council's planning committee refuse plans by AirwaveO2 to site a Tetra mast at Crackwell Farm, The Ridgeway.
"At last we have something to smile about," said campaigner Ann Dassen, who was grateful to the planning department and committee for agreeing there were "too many masts in this sensitive corner of the village."
"We have won today's battle, but the war is far from over yet," she added. "No doubt Airwave will keep trying, but this will have been a major setback for them! A fourth refusal for a new mast in this area, and an appeal loss in 2004, should be enough to prevent any new development in this area.
"Owing to a mix-up, objectors have not been sent official notification of the appeal for the original Arqiva site. All old letters for this second planning application have supposedly been forwarded to Cardiff.
"However, anyone who feels stongly about the likely ruination of The Harriet Davis Trust still has until September 22 to write. Please could you send three copies of your letter to Mr. H. Jones, The Planning Inspectorate, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3NQ, quoting reference no APP/N6845/A/06/1199641 Arqiva Site, The Ridgeway, Penally. A Local Public Inquiry should follow in the next couple of months.
"A big thank you once again to all Tenby Observer readers for their continued support!" concluded Mrs. Dassen.
Footnote: Pembrokeshire County Council's planning committee refused the application because it was felt that there was a proliferation of masts in this prominent ridge-top location.
