Just six pairs met this week, three of which don't usually play together. This was due mainly to a number of members calling in sick and perhaps also because of the bitter wind and 'snow' flurries.

Even so, we enjoyed 25 hands of duplicate and managed to separate the top three from the others.

Top pair were Mags Davies (again) and Mary Jones on 66 per cent, second Celia Rossiter with Brenda Badham, 54 per cent, and third Alan Hassall with Jeff Thomas, 51 per cent.

There were a couple of notable boards; one produced three identical small slams, which meant everyone agreed on the bidding for once and everyone scored a top!

The other produced the biggest single loss of the day, when a rare re-doubled contract went down four for a score of 1600 - bad luck to first time visitor to the club Colin Steer. Hope to see you again Colin.
