At the last meeting of the Pembrokeshire South East Energy Group, it was reported that the secretary had received a letter from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs recognising the group as a charity. This was regarded as a significant step forward.

The main thrust of the meeting was, however, concerned with the organising of the display at the community climate change event at the Bloomfield Centre. This was organised by PLANED for the Welsh Assembly Government. The group had a preview of the six-panel display board on which were many useful hints concerning energy conservation in the home and energy efficiency generally. Particularly admired both at the meeting and the subsequent event was a light bulb display board. Many people were surprised to see how wide a range of energy saving bulbs had now been produced. Almost all types were now available.

At the climate change event, the group made its first public outing. Members present were able to talk to a wide range of visitors, give information and hand out copies of energy saving and sustainable energy leaflets. Energy saving light bulbs were provided by Swalec for distribution to benefit recipients and people over the age of 70. Though many were distributed, the group still have some in stock and are still able to provide two per person to qualifying members of the public.

Another high point of the display was a demonstration of the Stirling Engine. It was most encouraging to find so many visitors to the event were most interested in the work of the group and expressed a desire to be kept fully informed of future activities.

The next meeting will be on January 22 at 7 pm in the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, when topics to be discussed will include assisting the public to accurately assess their energy usage using recently acquired monitoring equipment and also methods of determining an individual's or household's carbon footprint. All members of the public are cordially invited to attend.
