Milford's Mary Christopher carded an impressive 78 gross to win the prestigious Joan Green Salver, when Pembrokeshire Society of Lady Golf Captains held their autumn singles recently. Mary also won the Millennium Tray for the best nett score (67) by a senior competitor.

Lyn Bonar, of Tenby returned the best nett, score, 74, to win the Molly Whitehead Cup. Lyn was runner-up last year, losing out on the back six holes from Tenby teammate Mary Rowell.

Members were delighted that Molly Whitehead was present to award her trophy to Lyn.

Sheila Phillips (Milford Haven) scored the second best gross of 84, and Ann Owen (Haverfordwest) was close behind with 86 gross.

Anne Morris was one shot behind her Tenby colleague, with a nett 75, on the second back nine from third placed Pam Price (Milford Haven.)

The singles were held at South Pembrokeshire Golf Club. The event was tinged with sadness, as it was the first tournament to take place since the death of society chairman Maureen Watts, and Newport's representative Hildreth Williams. All held them in great affection and respect. Members stood in their memory before president Avril Thomas made the presentations.

South Pembs. lady captain Jane Parson welcomed the society to the club.

Acting chairman Mary Rowell thanked South Pembs. for their warm welcome, secretary John Gettings and his team, including the house and bar staff, the catering staff, and club professional Jeremy Tilson who did so much to assist with the smooth running of the tournament.

Mary also expressed the society's pleasure at the presence of Molly Whitehead, Avril Thomas, and Margaret Williams.

Members were delighted that Marlene Boot called in at lunchtime.

The society's spring foursomes will be held on Monday, 26 April at Haverfordwest Golf Club.

The Triennial meeting is scheduled for November. Details will be sent to the clubs.
