Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure and Get Stuffed Pizza) played host to the league champions Black Rabbit on Monday evening, in the semi-final of the Jimmy Allen Cup.

This competition is played as two singles and two doubles, with overall aggregate score to count.

The first singles saw Dave Wooles play John Lloyd. Dave started brilliantly and was soon 46 points up, which included breaks of 24 and 18. However, John came back to within 20 points by the time the frame got to the colours, but Dave held on to win by seven in what was probably the best game he's played all season.

The first doubles saw Glyn Davies and Mark Cleevely play Gareth Aries and Andrew Smith. Glyn and Mark started poorly, due to Glyn playing awful again, but somehow they were still in it, being just 20 points adrift by the time the frame got to the colours.

Glyn then got his act together, producing some good safety shots, and with Mark's excellent potting, the deficit had been reduced to six with only the black left on the table. Andrew Smith then unluckily went in-off to seal a single point win for Saundersfoot and put them eight points ahead overall.

The second singles saw Steve Cook play Mike Deardon. Steve, out of practice, started slowly, as did Mike, but by mid-frame Steve had opened up a small lead. The frame continued to ebb and flow, with Steve stretching his advantage to 15 by the colours and extending this to 20 by the brown.

His opponent did not give in, though, and when Steve eventually closed out the frame, his lead had been reduced to 12 points.

Now with the advantage of a 20-point aggregate start, the last doubles saw Dickie Parcell and Darren Morgan play Brett John and Dan Cobbanah. The Saundersfoot boys began cautiously, but midway through had got their noses in front by a single point.

This meant Saundersfoot were 21 up overall, but it was still with all to play for.

The Black Rabbit then edged ahead in the frame, by six points, to leave Saundersfoot 14 up and it was nervy times as it got to the colours.

Fourteen points down in the frame, but still six up overall, Dickie then potted the brown to make it 10 either way and leaving Saundersfoot needing just one ball, only for Dan to respond by potting blue, pink and black to give the Black Rabbit a 13-point win overall.

It was a good effort against the league champions, but it wasn't to be.

That concludes the Saundersfoot season, except for Mark Cleevely and Steve Cook's final of the doubles (on a date to be arranged).
