Tenby County Club (sponsored by LG Leisure) opened the new premier league season with a fixture against newly-promoted Balfour Club, in Haverfordwest, on Monday evening, and were 3-2 winners.
The first frame saw Martin Durham open Tenby's account. Martin started well, but was soon bogged down by a good opponent. Nevertheless, he continued to plug away, and when it got to the colours, there was only one point in it, before Martin finally closed the game out 56-35.
The second frame saw Peter Handicott take to the table. Peter started very well, opening up a good lead, which his experienced opponent pulled back. Peter then seemed to step up a gear, winning comfortably 50-30. Well done Peter.
The third frame saw Mark Cleevely step up to the table. Mark, not having played much during the closed season, due to family commitments, showed what a good player he is, but as the game progressed, he seemed to get bogged down by his opponent's safety. This frustrated Mark, who couldn't seem to get going at all and he ended up losing a close game 41-33.
The fourth game saw captain Glyn Davies in action. Glyn started slowly, but soon picked up against a player he always seems to be drawn againt (six times in the last three years). Glyn was always behind, until the colours, when an excellent pot on the blue set him up for a clearance, which he duly took to win 54-43.
The last frame saw debutant Paul Harries (who signed for the club this year) open his account. His opponent started well with a 22 break, leaving Paul something to think about (maybe he had his holiday to Las Vegas the next day on his mind). Paul was outplayed throughout this frame, losing 69-39.
