Greenhill finished their season in their Station Garage (Hyundai) Pembrokeshire Short Mat Bowls League with a fine 6-2 win over Hook in the Presidents Shield.
B. Duncombe and Gareth Phillips won the doubles 9-6 and the triples of M. Rowley Mary Jackson and Harry Meades won comfortably 15-3.
Welfare also finished their season with a win over the Presidents Shield winners, Merlins Bridge, with Kath Crossling and Melly Brown on top form to win the doubles 18-3 and Glyn Thomas winning the singles by 10 shots to nine.
Letterston fielded a full team of youngsters against a more experienced visiting Hook side and, after a good spirited match and some good bowling, it was the home team that won 6-2 after some good close games.
Matthew Harries had a fine win in the singles, running out 8-4 victor, Anwen Humphreys, Ben A'Hearne and Bernard A'Hearne won the triples 10-8 and the rink of Joe Harding, Sion Bevan, Kenny Morgan and Geraint Mathias won a hard fought contest by seven shots to six.
If Letterston can hang on to these youngsters, the future certainly looks bright for the club.
Tavernspite finished their campaign with an emphatic 8-0 win over Freystrop, with Andrew Evans winning the singles 14-1 and the rink of Chris Williamson, Jo Shewry, Phillip James and Ken Davies coming through narrowly 8-7.
Presidents League results were: Greenhill 6 Hook 2; Welfare 5 Merlins Bridge 3; Tavernspite 8 Freystrop 0; Letterston 6 Hook 2.
RINKS COMPETITION
On Saturday, April 5, at Heatherton, the Pembrokeshire rinks competition was held.
After the round-robin stage and the quarter-finals were played, it was the defending champions, Julie Hudson, Andrew Hudson, Gareth Davies and Martyn Davies (Hook) to play Bentley Moss, Albert Allen, Brian Oughton and Julia Oughton (Tabernacle) in one semi-final and Margaret Lewis, Mark Thorpe, Julie Thorpe and Peter Lewis (Freystrop) to play Janine Bancroft, Tricia Barton, Rob Barton and Robert Hughes (Penally) in the other.
After two well played semi-finals, it was the Hook rink that triumphed over Tabernacle and the Penally rink that overcame the Freystrop challenge.
After a good start by the Penally foursome in the final, the Hook rink clawed back to within one shot with one end to play, but it was not to be for the defending champions, and so it is congratulations to Janine Bancroft, Tricia Barton, Rob Barton and Robert Hughes, of Penally, who are the Pembrokeshire rink champions.
