Pembrokeshire started the S. B. Williams Shield competition with a home game played at Manorbier in good conditions. The youngsters made an excellent start under the watchful eyes of coaches Steve Briers and Bob Nelson. Pembrokeshire scored first in the 10th minute after good build-up play in midfield released Jay Brockway whose shot was parried by the visiting 'keeper, allowing Dylan Hawkmoor to follow up and shoot into the bottom corner. An even game ensued, with Pembs. 'keeper Liam James making two quality saves to keep the 1-0 advantage going into half-time. With roll-on/off subs both teams used their full squad. Pembrokeshire went in search of a second goal and it was not long in coming. Good work by Kristian Speake and Jay Brockway released Jason Clarke, who made no mistake with the shot for number two. Pembrokeshire sealed the game five minutes later when Toby Smith, who had a fine game in midfield, found Jay Brockway out wide and his perfect low cross allowed Jason Clarke a simple tap-in for his second goal. The Ceredigion strikers worked hard all game and Liam James made another excellent save, pushing a shot onto the post and recovering first to snap up the ball. The Pembrokeshire back four of James Lavis, Jordan Harding, Luke Lewis and Rhydian Bevan were solid as a unit. Toby Smith and Kristian Speake played well together in midfield, with striker Brockway unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Jamie Williams rounded off a solid all-round team performance with a neat individual goal after good work by Dan Richards, giving Pembrokeshire a deserved 4-0 victory against a useful Ceredigion side. Squad: Liam James, James Lavis, Jordan Harding, Luke Lewis, Rhydian Bevan, Dan Richards, Kristian Speake, Toby Smith, Dylan Hawkridge, Jay Brockway, Ashley Bevan, Chris Thomas, Joe Jones, Jason Clarke, Jamie Williams. Thanks go to Darrel Edwards who refereed the game superbly and to Manorbier FC for use of the pitch.
