The Pembrokeshire Half Marathon and 10k runs, on Sunday, September 28, are filling up fast, according to organisers, Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club. Sponsored for the first time by South Hook LNG, both events take in some fantastic coastal and rural views. Based in Dale, both races head out toward St. Ann's Head, before returning to the village, with the Half Marathon then heading out on a long loop around Marloes, making for a challenging and hilly course. Both events are aimed at those who simply enjoy running or a challenge and want to have some fun - in fact, power walkers are encouraged to take part in the 10k! Serious runners are of course also welcome. The club are again using the race to raise funds for the club and for Adam's Bucketful of Hope Appeal in memory of one of their former members, Adam Evans-Thomas. The first male and female finishers of the Half Marathon will receive the Adam Evans-Thomas perpetual trophy. All participants will receive a limited edition race T-shirt and goody bag. There are regular water stations on the course, as well as changing facilities before and after the race, and food available in the café and pub. The courses are marked with distance markers, directional arrows, and every junction is marshalled by volunteers. The closing date for entries is August 31. For the first time ever, there will be no entries after this date or on the day, due to demand for places. Race director, David Astins, commented: "Last year we hit our target of 250 entries for the two events with advance and on-the-day entries for the first time. It was a hard job dealing with all the late entries, so this year we have decided to take advance entries only. This is common practice at many popular races. As the event has grown in popularity year on year, with runners from across the UK as well as Pembrokeshire and other parts of Wales, we are confident all 250 places will go before August 31." For the first time this year the club has on-line entries available through Active Europe. This method of entry is simple for competitors, and makes the administration easier for the event organisers. Paper entries are also welcomed for those that prefer this method. Entry lists will be updated weekly on the club's web-site (http://www.pembrokeshire-tri.org.uk/">www.pembrokeshire-tri.org.uk/ events.htm), where all race information can also be found, including on-line entry, paper entry forms, a race pack, route maps and a sponsor form. Telephone enquires can be made to 07975 925365 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected].
