Last month, members of the Pembrokeshire Prospectors Society had a very enjoyable trip to the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, where they had a guided tour of the archaeological conservation laboratories. They were shown the best ways to preserve artefacts made out of many different materials. At the December meeting of the society, Finds of the Month winners were: coins pre 1649 - Henry III short cross penny c1222-36, Jack Tree; coins 1649 onwards - George V 1923 shilling, Josie Thomas; ancient artefacts - 16-17C stylus, Josie Thomas; modern finds - cap badge (Dorset) 1900-1901, Chris Holmes. During the evening, the club held a charity raffle in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Relief Nurses, and raised £300. Twelve-year-old Martin White won the main prize, a television, kindly donated by Vaughan's Radio, Quay Street, Haverfordwest. The chairman conveyed thanks to all the local businesses who had contributed items for the raffle. To end the evening, Mary Seaton hosted a very enjoyable quiz, which the north of the county team won... without any cheating! The next meeting will be the AGM at 7.30 pm, on Thursday, January 5, at the Cricket Club, Dale Road, Haverfordwest.
