Many newcomers and residents in Pembrokeshire will be unaware that a club and track exists for those interested in live steam and battery powered railway locomotives and also traction engines.
The club, Pembrokeshire Model Engineering (PME), has half-a-mile of track behind the Meads Sports Centre in Milford Haven (five-inch and 3.5 inch gauge, this is the distance, side to side, between the loco wheels) and is reached by driving in to the Meads car park, top right corner, and following the new cycle path. The club has its own entrance, but this is harder to find!
Do not get put off by the 'engineers' bit in PME, as a number of 'kit' models are available as well, and already running, along with second-hand models. However, there are many pitfalls when buying, and experienced advice is essential.
The club normally meets on Sundays at 2 pm and some Saturdays.
Tomorrow (Saturday) from 11 am, the club will be holding an Open Day with locos in steam for those who want to find out more and wish to pursue membership (adults only please, unless accompanied).
