On Easter Tuesday, 20 MG cars, whose owners are all members of the Pembrokeshire MG Club, travelled across the water, from Pembroke Dock to Rosslare, in Southern Ireland, for a five-day trip. The cars ranged from a 1952 MGTD to a 1995 MGR V8, and a beautiful sight they made, lined up at the dock on the morning of departure.
The club, now in its fourth year, has seen an increasing membership since its inception following one of the 'Western Telegraph's classic car runs.
Monthly meetings are held, usually on the second Tuesday of every month, at the Bridge Inn, Narberth, but interspersed with these meetings, members go out on rallies, runs, visits and jaunts, sometimes meeting other MG clubs, or going on 'special day' runs, like the St. David's run as near to St. David's Day as possible, or the Gower Run, which takes place this Sunday (cars to meet at the main car park in St Clears at 9.30 am). Club night 'outs and abouts' can include a driving 'test', a visit to a specially beautiful part of Pembrokeshire, or a special day at a member's home. Each year, there are a couple of opportunities for a stay-away.
Last October, members had a great weekend at Ruthin, enjoying a medieval banquet at Ruthin Castle, and there had been a trip to Ireland the previous Easter.
This Easter, the group headed for Killarney on the West Coast, after staying for one night in the Wexford area, fairly near Rosslare port.
In County Kerry, the members were able to choose from a large itinerary arranged by the club organiser, Neil Thomas (and helpers). Most cars drove The Ring of Kerry, a circular route around the county, with some spectacular scenery, and the Dingle Peninsular. There was also lots to see and do in the Killarney area, whilst the hotel provided a leisure centre and golf course for those who wished to 'have a quiet day'.
Despite the April showers, there were members who braved the weather by going 'open-topped', and considering the age of most of the cars, there were very few mechanical mishaps!
Club members are drawn from counties adjacent to Pembrokeshire, as well as Pembs. itself and new members are always welcome.
Next club night out starts at 7 pm from the Cleddau Bridge Hotel on May 13.
