The Pembrokeshire branch of the Burma Star Association visited the Royal British Legion National Arboretum at Litchfield in Staffordshire on Saturday, July 21. Members attended the 11 am Last Post and Reveille service at the Millennium Chapel. The party then proceeded to the Burma Star Memorial where a wreath was laid by the association president, Mr. Jim Hatcher, of Kilgetty, and the Kohima Epitaph was spoken by the Legion guide. Also situated in this area were the Chindit Memorial sections of the Burma and Sumatra railway and a tree planted on behalf of the Pembrokeshire Burma Star Association as part of the memorial. The visit culminated in a tour of the Far East Prisioners of War Memorial Centre where the Kohima Epitaph was recited in Welsh by Mr. Dai James, of Goodwick. Altogether a very moving and memorable day for all concerned. Special thanks to Mr. Peter Daley, coach driver, who got the party to their destination in extreme weather conditions in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
