New Hedges has officially opened Pembrokeshire’s first fully accessible play park, a facility designed for children of all abilities.
After dedicated fundraising and hard work, New Hedges Village Hall is proud to announce the official opening of the county’s first and only fully accessible play park.
This landmark facility is a significant step forward in making the county's amenities more inclusive, providing a safe and engaging space where all children of all physical abilities can play together.
The purpose-built park, which officially opened this summer, is designed to be a hub of enjoyment for everyone. Its accessible design means that disabled and less able-bodied children can use the equipment safely and with ease.
The park features specialised apparatus, including a wheelchair-accessible swing (which requires a RADAR key for access) and a roundabout that can safely accommodate wheelchairs, allowing all children to experience the joy of play.

The £125,000 project was a monumental community effort. The New Hedges Village Hall's own strong fundraising efforts were also instrumental in bringing the vision to life. The accessible equipment was purchased from GL Jones Playgrounds, a respected Welsh company known for its high safety standards.
With nearly 10% of Pembrokeshire's population living with a physical disability, the opening of this play park marks a moment of local history. It's a powerful statement in the effort to make the county more accessible for the next generation.
"We are incredibly proud to open a space that truly embodies our community's spirit of inclusion. It's heartwarming and humbling to see the park being used so frequently, but we want to raise awareness of it for even more people to enjoy," said a representative from the New Hedges Village Hall.
"This park is for every child in Pembrokeshire. We invite everyone to bring a picnic blanket, spend a day here, and make the most of this free facility, especially before the summer ends. We can't wait to see it filled with children of all abilities."
The ward’s county councillor, Cllr Rhys Jordan said recently: “One of the proudest moments of the last few months has been seeing the new accessible play park come to life. It’s been fantastic to see so many children and families enjoying it.
“This has been a real labour of love from a group of committed local volunteers. They’ve shown what’s possible when the community comes together with a shared goal. I’m so grateful for their hard work, and I know many of you are too.
“This hasn’t happened by chance. It’s the result of countless hours of hard work from volunteers who poured their time, energy, and soul into making this dream a reality. And just as importantly — it’s thanks to you, the residents of New Hedges, who showed up time and time again to support every fundraiser, no matter how big or small.
“It’s more than a park — it’s a symbol of inclusion, kindness, and the power of people who care.”
The Play Park is now open and available for use. Entry is free.
