An unusual gift was bestowed upon Folly Farm this Hallowe'en, as Radio Pembrokeshire's Jim Hughes donated his enormous home-grown pumpkin to be enjoyed by all of Folly Farm's visitors this half- term. The pumpkin, weighing well over 100lbs, is thought to be the biggest in Pembrokeshire! Said Jim: "It took me around nine months to grow this pumpkin and I wanted it to be enjoyed by lots of people this Hallowe'en! I knew that Folly Farm had created a spooky enchanted forest for children, and I thought it would be an ideal addition to it." The pumpkin certainly fitted in well with all of the other Hallowe'en themed decorations and activities at Folly Farm, and has taken pride of place amid the ghosts and witches in 'Spooky Woods'. When asked the secret to his pumpkin-growing success, Jim confided that he makes his own compost and feeds his pumpkins with beer. "I also talk to them- but that's more to do with the fact that I've been drinking the beer myself,"he joked. The pumpkin was collected from Jim's vegetable patch by Folly Farm's Jo Broughton, but it took three people to move it into her van. She stated: "It is the biggest pumpkin I have ever seen, and it's very kind of Jim to give it to us." Hallowe'en decorations will remain at Folly Farm until next weekend, when preparations will begin for a magical festive season.
