A Pembrokeshire fundraising walk to show support for the people of Ukraine is being organised for this weekend by a team of stalwart strollers.
Locals Lyn Sandall (of New Heges), Lynn Knibbs and Debbie Ludlow (of Saunderfsoot), who have formed Team Littlefoot for various fundraising walks in recent times and during the pandemic, are encouraging others to join them this Sunday to show solidarity with the war-torn country.
“How the world has changed since Team Littlefoot’s last fundraising event; exactly two years ago since our charity evening in the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot,” said Lyn.
“I think we are all feeling rather helpless and feel unable to do much to help the Ukrainian people, so lets get together and try and help in this small way,” she continued.
The two-mile walk will start at Penally Station at 9.30 am and follow the fairly flat route along the coast path to Bubbleton Farm Cafe, walking over fields and open ground most of the way, so plenty of room to spread out with superb views of Caldey Island and the rugged coastline.
After a coffee and chat at Bubbleton (for those that wish) walkers will return to Penally by the same route.
It will be £5 per person to join the walk, with all monies raised to benefit Ukrainian refugees. Anyone joining the walk is asked to please wear or carry a Sunflower (the national flower of Ukraine), or wear blue and yellow to show support.
“Rest assured that all money raised will go directly to help the refugees, with no administration costs involved whatever, as it will be forwarded to Sandra Knibbs Herter (cousin of local Lynn Knibbs’ husband Mike) who lives in Hungary and is currently very involved with helping to care for and find accommodation for Ukrainian refugees in the area that she lives in, near Budapest,” explained Lyn.
“Sandra, is currently looking after nine refugees in her own home and she herself is sleeping in her sitting room to accommodate them,” she added.
