A Velo team of Pete Lloyd, Mike Lindsay, Oggy Owen and Nick Brown travelled to Neath on Friday and rode the Port Talbot Wheelers 25-mile '4 up' team time trial on the R25/24. Despite heavy rain and flash floods just before the start, the team did very well, finishing sixth overall with a time of 57: 27, and were in the prize money, taking first place as a composite team. On Sunday, several Velo riders travelled to Bridgend for the annual 'Dragon Ride', a 125-mile cyclosportive through the South Wales valleys and Brecon Beacons. The weather forecast was rain, but thankfully the forecasters got it completely wrong and it turned out to be mainly sunny, dry and an excellent day for cycling. Among the 2,000 or so riders were Velo members Nick Brown (6 hours 47 mins), Mike Lindsay (6:55), Andrew Milward (8:45) and Gareth Rees (8:55). Forthcoming events include the Sageston - Pembroke Dock 10-mile time trial on July 4. Meet at Carew Castle car park at 6.45 pm for a 7 pm start. Event entry fee is £2 for seniors and £1 for juniors. The club welcomes anyone on any roadworthy bike - the only stipulation is that approved helmets must be worn during club events and the minimum age for road events is 13 (parental consent is required for under 18s). The first event can be ridden as a come and try it event, after which membership of the club will be required for insurance purposes.
