Pembrokeshire towns Narberth and Pembroke were pipped to the post in their categories when they missed out on the top accolades at the ‘Great British High Street Awards’ announced last week.

The community of Narberth was urged to hop online and vote for the town which was shortlisted in the ‘Champion’ category; whilst Pembroke competed in the ‘Rising Star’ category of the awards - which aims to find the UK’s most ambitious high street.

Treorchy beat off Narberth and Swansea to take the ‘Champion’ title with the town awarded £15,000 to spend in the community as part of the prize; whilst Caernarfon’s Palace Street was named the ‘Welsh Rising Star’ at the awards.

Run by The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) in proud partnership with Visa and backed by other partners, the awards which saw 39 high streets from across the UK shortlisted, look to celebrate the communities that are working to revive local high streets.
