In the charity match at Carew on Wednesday, the Pembrokeshire Select Eleven beat the Warwickshire Bears by three wickets. Huw Jones scored 101 with four sixes and eight fours in a Warwickshire total of 218 for nine in 40 overs, backed up by a forceful knock of 30 by Neil Carter. Ian Capon took the first four wickets for Pembrokeshire and ended with figures of four for 16 and Steve Cole took two for 27. The fielding was alert and Huw Scriven was in top class form behind the stumps.
In reply Simon Wood 72 and Robert Scourfield 44 not out took Pembrokeshire to 219 for seven, with some assistance earlier from Steve Cole who had scored 31 before giving a return catch to Heath Streak.
Wood and Scourfield both had excellent all round matches, with Wood hitting a six and nine fours and Scourfield found the boundary seven times in his assured innings.
Speaking publicly after the match, Nick Knight said: "A very big thank you to Carew Cricket Club who have put on a magnificent day.
"The wicket, the outfield and everything has been in great nick and a special thank you to all of you for supporting the match and for making the day so special."
Carew Club chairman Gethin Evans expressed his delight with the way things went. Continuing, he said: "We have been so lucky with the weather as the rest of the country has had dreadful weather today.
"It has been a lot of hard work, but it has been worth it with the support of so many spectators. There were some good performances by the Pembrokeshire team who helped to make it a day to remember, with the bowling being of excellent quality in the early stages of the Warwickshire innings, by Ian Capon, Robert Scourfield and Simon Wood.
"There were also some good batting displays especially by Simon Wood, Robert Scourfield and Steve Cole.
"I am also delighted for Paul Morris and his colleagues in Tenby Round Table for all of the work that they have put in and it has been a good day for the Carew Club."
Paul Morris said: "It has been a fantastic day. We are grateful to Carew Cricket Club for the use of their outstanding facilities, the pitch was superb and the two sides really entered into the spirit of the game.
"My thanks to everyone who has been involved, particularly to the Warwickshire players for travelling down. Also many thanks to all of our sponsors today, and especially to Mike Scourfield and Carew Quarries who have been the main sponsors of this event.
"Without such support, this special day could not have been possible. As a result we will be able to give away a substantial amount to local charities within the remit of Tenby Round Table"
Warwickshire captain Nick Knight was unable to play because of a wrist injury. He spoke to Observer Sport and said: "It has been brilliant. Pity to lose, but it has been a very enjoyable day which has made the long journey worthwhile.
"Carew have put on a great day for us, the hospitality has been exceptional, the weather has looked after us and we have been very fortunate. My mate Paul Morris has put a lot of work in and made this day happen, with the support of Carew Cricket Club and his colleagues in Tenby Round Table."
On being asked about his benefit year, he replied: "It has been very good. It is just a case of balancing being captain and getting the team right together with trying to maximise the benefit as well. It is very time consuming, but I have been lucky enough to have this opportunity of having a benefit."
Knight had been in cracking form before picking up an injury when scoring a triple century against Middlesex at Lord's.
On being asked about progress, he said: "Hopefully the injury will clear up within another week or so. I will be seeing a specialist tomorrow and I am looking forward to being able to resume playing again. It has just been a case of letting the crack have time to heal."
