Wales has excelled at the WorldSkills UK National Finals, securing 57 medals with standout performances from Pembrokeshire talent.
The week, held from November 26 to 28, marked a historic milestone for Wales as it hosted the WorldSkills UK National Finals for the very first time.
Following the inspiring Team Wales Torch Relay, which travelled the length and breadth of Wales, uniting colleges and communities in celebration of skills, the WorldSkills UK National Finals took place across five venues in Wales, covering over 40 skill areas from engineering and digital to hospitality, construction and the creative industries.
The official results were announced during a medal ceremony at ICC Wales on Friday, November 28, where Team Wales delivered an outstanding performance, securing a total of 57 medals.
Of these, young people from Pembrokeshire College achieved 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze and 2 Highly Commended medals.
The team also excelled in Foundation Skills competitions, securing 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Highly Commended medal - a testament to Wales’ inclusive approach to skills development.
This year, Wales was represented by a total of 122 competitors - the highest number the nation has ever had. Welsh competitors made up around 30% of all entrants across the UK, reflecting both the breadth of skills talent in Wales.
Mason Aitchison, who won a Bronze medal in the Welding competition is proud of his achievements, stating: “After getting Silver at Skills Competition Wales, the WorldSkills UK National Finals felt like the natural next step for me.
“I’ve put in so much practice to improve my welding skills, and competing has really helped me grow. The experience of learning from trainers, tutors, and peers has been invaluable - it’s all about building your skills through practice.”
