Pembrokeshire residents are being reminded that leaving recycling outside bins at bring sites is an offence.

It comes following reports of unsightly littering being left at some of the county’s recycling facilities.

Bring sites offer an alternative way for residents to dispose of their recycling and with over 100 such facilities across the county, Pembrokeshire has one of the highest number of them across Wales.

They are emptied weekly by recycling crews.

At this time of year households produce higher levels of recycling and bring sites are often used by residents in addition to using their weekly kerbside service.

Cabinet Member for the Environment and Welsh Language Councillor Cris Tomos says even though more waste is produced at Christmas bring sites are a valuable resource and should not be abused.

“Given we operate a weekly kerbside collection for recyclables across Pembrokeshire there is no reason why people should leave their recycling outside the bins.

“If they are full, alternative sites should be found or people should take their recyclate home with them to put out for their next weekly collection.

“Leaving it on the pavement and not inside the bins is an offence.

“It may result in a fixed penalty ticket for littering or even worse a prosecution for fly-tipping.

“If caught, people can be fined and prosecuted and I’m urging people not to do it.”
