A new era began for the Pembrokeshire Referees' Society when Haverfordwest's Steve Evans took on the role of chairman of the society at the recently held annual general meeting.
He will be supported by president Danny Thomas from Pembroke and treasurer Ian Baxter, of Carmarthen.
Jonathan Twigg, also from Haverfordwest fills the post of vice-chairman, while being acting secretary alongside Keith McNiffe, of Pembroke, as the society search for a suitable incumbent.
President Danny Thomas presented the most promising referees' award for 2008/9 to Johnston's Helmut Reinhardt, who will be a level 6 referee next year while continuing with his duties on the Welsh League.
The referee's referee of the year was Steve Williams, of Hundleton, who also received a memento as he stood down from his position as chairman.
A similar presentation was made to Jonathan Twigg who relinquished the role of secretary after several seasons at the helm.
Steve Williams, Jonathan Twigg and Chris Stapleton were newly-elected honorary members after their roles as officers of the society over many years were acknowledged, alongside new honorary vice-presidents Chris Jenkins (Friar Vaults Haverfordwest) and Anthony Finnegan (A&A Scaffolding, Pembroke).
The society continues to go from strength to strength with between 18 and 25 members attending each monthly meeting, which takes place on the second Sunday of each month at Neyland Athletic Club, kicking-off at 6.30 pm.
The members are indebted also to the stirling work of Pedr McMullen in his role as RAW chairman and also the instructor on the new referee courses run by the WWFA.
Members have been rewarded this year through three sponsorships, with the Friars Vaults (provision of a jacket), A&A Scaffolding (provision of a warm-up jacket) and for the 27th consecutive year, Chevron Refinery. Without these sponsorships, members acknowledged that subscription fees would have to be raised.
