Pupils from Pembrokeshire have been finding out about the workings of Welsh Parliament and how people can play an active role in democratic life.
Pupils from Years 5 and 6 at St Oswald’s VA Primary School in Jeffreyston enjoyed a special visit from Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Samuel Kurtz this month.
During the visit, Mr Kurtz spoke to pupils about the role of the Senedd, how democracy works in Wales, and the importance of representing local communities.
He explained how decisions are made in the Welsh Parliament, what a Member of the Senedd does on behalf of constituents, and why participation in democratic life matters.

The session also gave pupils the opportunity to ask questions and share their own ideas about their local area. Pupils showed a strong interest in how Wales is governed and how young people can make their voices heard.
Mr Kurtz said: “It was a real pleasure to visit St Oswald’s VA Primary School and to see such enthusiasm and curiosity from the pupils. Understanding how democracy works and how decisions are made is important, and it is really encouraging to see young people taking an interest in how their community and country are run.
“I was particularly impressed by the quality of the questions I was asked, which showed the pupils had taken the time to research and understand the different levels of political representation.”
Pupils from Pembroke Dock Community School also headed down to the Bay in Cardiff for a couple of days, with a trip to the Senedd.
Mr Kurtz continued: “As I’ve seen their School Senedd first hand, it was nice to show them this Senedd. I received a proper grilling from them too as they asked some tough question about the job and all that it entails!”
