The pooch that has touched the hearts of everyone in Pembrokeshire, whose story has travelled the globe, has a happy ending to bark about.

Greenacres Animal Rescue Centre have said that they are thrilled to share the news that beautiful Cocker Spaniel Ariel has finally found her forever home.

Ariel’s incredible story began back in September 2023 when the young dog, born with six legs and various other anomalies, was discovered abandoned in a Pembroke Dock car park.

Ariel's resilience and spirit captured the attention of people worldwide, with media coverage reaching as far as Australia.

Since her discovery, Ariel has been on a remarkable journey, filled with numerous vet visits, scans, surgeries, specialist referrals, physiotherapy sessions, and media appearances on radio, TV, and newspapers.

Rescued and taken in by Greenacres Animal Rescue at Ebbs Acres Farm, Haverfordwest, fundraising was sought so that she could have the surgery required to remove the extra legs, which were fused to her spine, and also some corrective work to her pelvis as well.

Ariel was initially managed by her local vets, Fenton Vets and the SMART clinic before being referred to the ‘Small Animal Referral Hospital Langford Vets University of Bristol’ and in the expert hands of surgeons Aaron Lutchman and Ed Friend.

She underwent surgery back in January to remove her extra legs, and the procedure went very well, with Ariel taking it all in her stride, before returning to her foster home.

Her additional limbs were removed, and thankfully having the CT images meant the surgeons did not discover anything unexpected.

“The outpouring of support from our followers has been overwhelming, and today, we are delighted to announce that Ariel has been officially adopted,” said a spokesperson for Greenacres.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a part in transforming this once discarded pup into a beloved pet.

“A special thank you goes to June, Ariel's foster mom, whose dedication, care, and energy have been instrumental in Ariel's incredible transformation. Thank you for joining us on this inspiring journey of love and hope.

“Ariel is symbolic of everything Greenacres stands for,” they added.
