An invitational Pembrokeshire side will be looking to complete a famous double over English County Cricket Champions Warwickshire when they lock horns at Carew Cricket Club on Sunday, June 26. Last year, the home side notched up an impressive victory over their first class opponents in the highly successful charity match organised by Tenby Round Table in association with Carew Cricket Club. The Bears, again riding high in the county championship and quarter finalists in the Cheltenham and Gloucester trophy, return to Pembrokeshire for a two innings twenty/20 challenge against the select Pembrokeshire outfit selected by Gethin Evans. Gethin is hopeful that he will have a few tricks up his sleeve for the visitors. "I am hopeful that a couple of current Welsh rugby internationals will be able to join the Pembrokeshire side to give it that bit of extra 'muscle'. The final Pembrokeshire side will be confirmed in the week leading up to the match, but it will certainly be a strong one and they will want to give the first class outfit a real run for their money," said Gethin. The match kickstarts Tenby Round Table's 50th Charter celebrations, with all proceeds going to deserving local causes. It also marks the benefit season of popular Warwickshire all-rounder Dougie Brown, who in his illustrious first class career, has amassed more than 700 wickets and 11,000 runs. The main sponsors of the match as they were last year are Thomas Scourfield and Sons, Carew Quarries. Tenby Round Table are indebted to Mike Scourfield and the team for their continued support of the event and of cricket in the locality in general. The event has also been backed by a wide range of local businesses and organisation, support that is greatly appreciated. Tenby Round Table chairman Paul Morris said everything was set for a memorable sporting and social occasion. "Warwickshire will be bringing their full side to Carew after playing Glamorgan in a twenty/20 zone match on the Saturday evening. Current test star Ian Bell has not been selected for the Nat West one day series by England, so he is likely to make a return and he will be hoping to score a few more runs than he did last time!" he said. England's current off-spinner, Ashley Giles, is also on the recovery trail from injury and may well make an appearance. He will be joined by former England opener Nick Knight (who failed to play in last year's game due to a broken hand), Zimbabwe's Heath Streak and other Warwickshire stars including Trevor Penney, Jonathan Trott and Neil Carter. Play will begin at 2 pm, with refreshments and a fully licensed bar available throughout the day. Entrance to the ground costs just £4 for adults (free to under 15s) to include a souvenir programme. "This is the first of our major fund-raising events for the year, with our ever-popular summer spectaculars taking place in Tenby Harbour on Sundays, July 24 and August 7," Paul commented. "To see a team of the calibre of Warwickshire is a real opportunity for young cricket fans in our county. So I would encourage people to come along and enjoy what should be a great day out. Let's hope that the weather is kind to us and we can enjoy a full day of cricket," he added.
