The owners of a popular holiday park in between New Hedges and Tenby - which is due to undergo a revamp, have reassured site caravan owners that everything will be done to make the process as smooth as possible.

Plans for Rowston Holiday Park’s redevelopment and extension, reducing pitches and enhancing environmental factors were given the green light by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority before the summer.

However, one van owner on the site, has bemoaned the fact that they’ve been given very little notice to remove their facilities from the land, telling the Observer that they have been issued ‘eviction notices’ advising that they must remove vans by the beginning of December, stating: “Not exactly giving everyone much notice after some people have been on the site for decades!”

A spokesperson for the Hean Castle Estate, which owns and manages the site said that their plan was to create a ‘truly first-class holiday accommodation facility’ for the area, which will bring about many positive benefits for the community.

“Hean Castle Estate has been pleased to extend annual agreements to holiday caravan owners at Rowston Park since 2020 when the Estate took over its management,” they stated.

“This has allowed owners to continue enjoying stays on the park whilst we negotiated plans with the relevant authorities for its redevelopment.

“Owners have been kept regularly and fully informed of progress, and understood that we have only ever been able to provide agreements of a twelve month duration pending a planning decision.

“Owners have all been aware that it would ultimately be necessary for them to vacate their pitches on the park when redevelopment work began.

“Now that a date has been finalised, we are offering to help facilitate the removal of holiday caravans by putting owners in touch with local dealerships willing to purchase their units and take them away from the park, from which we will receive no benefits,” they continued.

“Some owners have expressed interest in the opportunity to own a new holiday caravan on Rowston Park after its redevelopment, and we are delighted to offer assistance with this.

“Our intention is to create a truly first-class holiday accommodation facility for this area which will bring about many positive benefits for the community, the environment, and the local economy.

“Other neighbouring businesses, and the jobs they sustain, will be supported by the spending of holiday home owners on the expanded Rowston Park.”

The spokesperson said that Rowston’s high quality standards will be matched with a strong commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural world, with work to included the planting of thousands of native trees which will provide wildlife habitats for many bird and animal species.

“We will also be creating wildflower meadows where honey bees, butterflies and other pollinators can forage, and which will further enhance the ambitious landscaping plans we have in place,” they explained.

“We thank all holiday caravan owners for their past loyalty, and now look forward to further enhancing this region's reputation as a world-class holiday destination.”
