At this year’s Pembrokeshire County Show, two long-standing Pembrokeshire Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) staff, Marion Davies and Susan James, were presented with Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society Long Service Awards, recognising their dedication towards the county’s farming community.
The prestigious award is presented by the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society to farm workers and agricultural business employees who have been in service for 25 years on the same farm or with the same employer.
Collectively, Marion and Susan have worked for the FUW Pembrokeshire’s office for over 57 years, with Marion starting her journey in December 1994, and Susan joining her in January 1999. Throughout that time, they have served and supported members across Pembrokeshire, as well as supporting the county’s proud farming communities.
The award was presented to Marion and Susan at the Show by FUW President, Ian Rickman. Congratulating Marion and Susan on the award, he said: “Over the decades, the agricultural sector in Pembrokeshire has undergone significant changes and challenges. From animal diseases and the accompanying financial and mental health strains, to shifts in regulations, support schemes changes, and a global pandemic.
“However, through it all, one thing has remained constant: Marion and Susan's wealth of knowledge, commitment and dedication. They have become the go-to people for any query, be it agricultural or not.
“Alongside Rebecca Voyle in the FUW Pembrokeshire office, they have supported countless members, as well as serving thousands of cups of tea and coffee on the FUW stand at the Pembrokeshire County Show over the years!
“It’s not unusual to hear our members say they couldn't have kept farming without the support of Marion and Susan, and this award rightly recognises this hard work, dedication and commitment.”
Guto Bebb, FUW Group Chief Executive added: “We’re very grateful to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society for presenting Marion and Susan with this prestigious award.”
