Ask the expert - Magic: Can you tell me about yourself and your business?
Tom Luddington Magic is all about providing magical entertainment to make your wedding or party extra special for everyone. I am a specialist in close up magic having spent more than twenty years studying the art of using cards, coins, rope, silk and everyday objects to entertain people of all ages. I am proud to be an apprentice of the Magic Circle in London, and I use my magic to create laughter, fun and a sense of wonder at what can happen right in front of your eyes. Magic can really bring people together and create moments of fun and laughter, which is why I love to perform for people.
What Magic do you offer for weddings?
My belief is that magic is best close up. Really close up. Especially at weddings. It has the effect of bringing people together to share the magical experience and the fun - and the magic is way more effective too as it happens right in front of people and often actually in their hands. This style of magic is best performed to small groups of people as I walk around going from group to group. I usually perform around the meal time - between courses, and then as evening guests arrive to help get the party going.
Do you also entertain
children?
Weddings are a family affair, so all my magic is family oriented to suit everyone. I have some great visual effects for the younger children as well some mind bending tricks for the adults. I will never use magic to make fun of people, or to try and make others look the fool - and that applies down to my youngest audience members. Everyone will be treated with the utmost respect. It is important to ensure you employ a magician that you know is a good fit for you and your guests, so I offer a free meet and greet service so that you can be sure that my magic and personality are right for your day.
How soon do you recommend couples book their entertainment?
I recommend you book well in advance, especially if your wedding or event is on a weekend in the summer months.
Who’s your favourite magician?
My favourite magician is Lennart Green, a Swiss magician who won the FISM close up magic competition some years back. His dedication to creating really amazing and unique magic, along with his humble demeanour and great sense of humour are a winning combination. I still have no idea how he does some of his tricks. He is a legend among magicians.
What’s your favourite trick?
I love card magic, but producing a bottle of wine from thin air always gets a great reaction!
Do you do magic for other functions?
Yes - I love to perform at weddings, but of course also perform at parties, events and trade shows too.
What’s the best part of your job?
The reason I studied to become a magician is because I am one of the easiest people to impress with magic. I love how it makes you feel when you watch something happen right in front of you that just cannot be. Creating that moment of wonder for others is the best part of what I do. And cake. I do like wedding cake!
Can I see you at the County Wedding Fayre?
Yes - do come and say hello to me at the Fayre. It’s always a fun event and I’ll be performing some magic at my stand .
