The Shetland Pony Grand National: Returning by popular demand the Shetland Pony Grand National, provides a high speed dash, a blur of coloured silks, flying manes and tails and the roar of the crowd - the excitement of a day at the races condensed into Shetland pony size.

The Shetland Pony Grand National has all the trappings of a big race meeting, parade of ponies, jockeys in their racing colours being led to the start and then ‘the race’ - 12 mini Aintree style fences for them to tackle amidst the cheers from the crowd.

This year, the races are taking place in the Capestone Horse arena, so spectators will be able to get much closer to the action. A qualifier for the televised Olympia International Horse Show at Christmas, the competition for the chance of going to London will be high - so expect some great action from the jockeys and their ponies.

The Shetland Pony Grand National has always raised money for charities and since it first started in 1981 has raised more than £400,000.  Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society is delighted to be able to bring this truly unique and entertaining spectacle to our county whilst also supporting such a worthy endeavour.

Make sure to take your place around the Capestone Horse Arena to watch this fantastic event.

Sheep Show: This year, the Sheep Show moved to the Countryside Park. This hugely popular show has been seen by more than 2.5 million people and continues to draw the crowds.

The show is highly entertaining and also educational all set on the back of a 40’ stage trailer where the sheep are introduced on to the stage.

“It’s a bit like Miss World in sheep,” says New Zealander Richard Savory who owns and operates the show from his farm in Norfolk.

The 30 minute show is both funny and informative, a rare combination. The highlight of the show is the ‘The Sheep Show Hustle’ - dancing sheep! So be sure to visit the Countryside Park - with four sheep shows a day, it really is a spectacle not to be missed.
