Pembrokeshire Council’s leaded - Cllr David Simpson, has urged members of the public to get involved in the budget consultation, stating that like all other Local Authorities in Wales, Pembrokeshire is facing ‘significant financial pressure’.
In his New Year message, Cllr Simpson said: “If you are lucky enough to have had a few days off over the festive season I hope you have been able to spend time with your friends and families.
“For those who have to work over the festive period, including emergency workers and many of our own Council staff, I thank you for everything you do all year around.
“I’d also like to thank you, the Pembrokeshire public, for all your support over the past 12 months.
“It seems like a lifetime ago now but this time last year my Leader’s Updates during the festive period were published in the grip of the Omicron outbreak and Christmas and the New Year looked very different indeed.
“While Covid-19 is not at the forefront of our minds anymore it has not disappeared and you will know that our health services are still under severe pressure.
“As I write this message further industrial action is likely as we head into 2023.
“To help reduce the demand on services I would appeal to everyone to carefully consider whether you need to call 999.
“The advice is to use the NHS 111 Wales website for health advice where there is no immediate threat to life, or speak to or visit a pharmacist, GP or minor injuries unit.
“We can all do our bit to help reduce the strain on our emergency services.
“Looking ahead to the coming year, you will know that Pembrokeshire County Council, like all other Local Authorities in Wales, is facing significant financial pressure.
“It is inevitable that there will have to be some difficult decisions made as we set the budget for the coming year.
“As part of this process there is a consultation where you can find out more about the financial situation, see some of the potential money saving measures and have your say on your priorities.
“I’d urge all members of the public to get involved at https://haveyoursay.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/
“It’s also clear that family budgets are going to remain stretched by the cost of living and for some this winter will be very difficult.
“Please know that there is support available.
“Anyone experiencing financial hardship or who would like information about what support is available, can contact the Pembrokeshire Community Hub on 01437 723660 or email [email protected]
“The Pembrokeshire Community Hub has also created an online one-stop-shop on the Connect Pembrokeshire website https://connectpembrokeshire.org.uk/ which has lots of useful information and an interactive map of Warm Welcome Community Spaces across the county.
“I’d like to conclude by once again wishing you all a very happy New Year and my warmest wishes for 2023.”
