Pembrokeshire Council CEO Will Bramble is in line for a pay rise of over £5,000, the Tenby Observer can reveal.

The County Council’s top boss will earn an annual salary of £160.890 in the current financial year, after his staff association that represents all local authority CEOs accepted a pay rise of 3.3 per cent.

The pay rise won’t come through until negotiations between Unision, which represents council workers, and the national joint bargaining body for local government, are done.

When it does take effect, Mr Bramble’s payrise will be backdated to April 1.

He earned £155.750 in fiscal 2025-26, and the 3.3 per cent rise equates to another £5,139.75 for 2026-27.

According to accounts, in 2021, when Mr Bramble was appointed to the role, he took home £110,970, meaning his annual pay has jumped by almost £50,000.

The latest increase, if approved, will mean Mr Bramble will have seen a huge salary increase for leading the Local Authority, over the past five years, while residents have been left to deal with a barrage of service cuts and double digit council tax rises.

Council tax in Pembrokeshire rose by 4.6 per cent this year, equivalent to an extra £76 for the average property.

Last year, the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives negotiated a 3.2 per cent pay hike for its members that lead more than 300 council areas across the UK.

Tracey Lee, chair of ALACE, welcomed the payrise, telling members: “While we are not in a position to accept the offer at this stage, we welcome its parity with the offer made to other staff groups.

“We also welcome the continued recognition by employers’ of the critical role that chief executives and senior officers provide to their communities.”
