Pembrokeshire College student, Georgia Picton has been crowned Welsh Dance Champion at the finals held in Newport last weekend.
A level 3 Sport student, Georgia came first in the Freestyle category in the Under 18s section and is going on to compete in the British Championship held at the prestigious Tower Ballroom in Blackpool in June.
Georgia said: “Becoming the Welsh champion is amazing, but I can’t wait to compete in Blackpool! What a setting!”
Georgia has defied all the odds in becoming a dance champion after undergoing spinal cord surgery only six months ago.
Sport lecturer, Kevin Hopkins said: “Georgia is an inspirational young lady. She has done so well to be competing at this level, especially after surgery.”
Georgia will also be competing to qualify for the World Dance Championship later in the year and who knows what will be next. Maybe we’ll see her sparkling under the glitter ball on Strictly Come Dancing in the not too distant future.
Good luck Georgia!
