The Farmers' Union of Wales' Pembrokeshire county branch has won the union's annual business efficiency award. Presenting the award to county executive officer Rebecca Williams at the recent FUW annual general meeting, deputy president Emyr Jones said it went to the county which generated a surplus at the least cost per member during the year. "The award reflects the efforts of every member of staff and takes into consideration the income generated, the costs incurred in generating that income, and the average membership fee. "The performance of any business can be measured in terms of financial efficiency, which calls for management skills and, more especially, leadership qualities, within the county. "This year's winner is a county which exemplifies the service standards which we as a union strive to achieve for all our members, both in terms of service as well as effective representation on all farming issues of concern to members. "I have already mentioned how this award reflects teamwork and leadership within a county, which usually results in membership and income growth plus cost containment. "This award usually reflects an active executive committee extending its full support to the team leadership provided by an able and energetic executive officer."
