A public awareness meeting recently took place highlighing the wonderful work of Pembrokeshire People First - a member led charity for adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism in the county.

Pembrokeshire People First (PPF) is an independent, member-led charity based in Haverfordwest, which support adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to be heard, feel included and live more independent, confident lives.

The organisation is led by the people it supports. Many of its staff, volunteers and trustees have lived experience of learning disability or autism.

Every two years, members write a manifesto that sets PPF’s direction. This ensures work stays focused on what really matters to those we support.

PPF delivers a range of projects that support personal growth, independence and community involvement.

It promote rights, wellbeing, inclusion and meaningful choice. Its work is person-centred and strengths-based, helping people build on what they can do - not just manage what they can’t.

Members work closely with local partners, services and professionals to improve awareness, reduce barriers and make systems more accessible.

A spokesperson for PPF said: “Together, we are helping to build a Pembrokeshire where people with learning disabilities and/or autism are not only included, but truly involved in shaping their lives and the world around them.”

County Councillor for the Castle Ward, Cllr Thomas Tudor, who attened the event remarked: “It was very interesting to attend a public awareness meeting on the wonderful work of Pembrokeshire People First at HaverHub.

“At the various demonstration stands, volunteers and members of this great charity were able to share with participants exactly what this amazing community charity does for the people of Pembrokeshire supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.”
