Clynfyw Care Farm in Pembrokeshire will be hosting a Learning Disability Hustings next month - prior to the Senedd Elections on May 7
The purpose of the event which will take place on Wednesday, April 22 - is to discover what the candidates and parties are planning to do to support people with learning disabilities, their families and our community over the next four years.
“With social care cuts forever on the agenda, we welcome the opportunity to learn whether our next Senedd representatives will have our best interests at heart,” said Clynfyw’s Registered Manager, Jim Bowen.
“We have so many questions to ask,” said Stephen Galloway, Clynfyw’s Participant Representative.
“It’s important we have a chance to learn independent living skills, but the cuts are taking away our freedom. We want to know how they are planning to change this.”
This Hustings gives Social Workers the chance to share what support they need to do their job well. It allows unpaid carers to explain their hopes from their representatives, and service users to share real life experiences.
“We want to know which Candidates understand and care about us,” continued Stephen.
“We want to know that they will listen and help and won’t just disappear off to Cardiff and ignore us here in rural west Wales.”
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care, Tessa Hodgson, is introducing the Hustings and questions are likely to be challenging, enlightening and based on personal experience.
The Hustings will run from 1 to 3pm and numbers are limited so booking in advance is essential. The event will be recorded, with factchecked audio clips made available on the Clynfyw Care Farm Facebook page shortly after the event.
