Pembrokeshire is a beautiful place, both to live and visit. People enjoy living in Pembrokeshire and love coming here on holiday.

We have a fantastic coastline, crime levels are low and there is a tremendous spirit among our local communities which all contributes to the county's quality of life.

However, there are inherent difficulties in residing in this part of the world, including high unemployment, seasonal employment and the issues of isolation that a remote location brings.

All the public sector organisations in Pembrokeshire are aspiring and working towards making the county an even better place to live. To this end, the Community Plan for Pembrokeshire has just been published, following a series of community involvement activities, culminating in a three-month public consultation period.

The plan has been developed by the Community Planning and Leadership Partnership and has been circulated to a wide range of organisations and individuals, including town and community councils, business representatives, and community organisations.

The plan sets out broad priorities for the future of Pembrokeshire, focusing on key quality of life issues that will make the county a better place to live and visit.

The Community Plan in itself will not bring improvement, but the process that supports it should drive change. Progress will be dependent on local communities working with the partnership to improve quality of life. The partners involved are committed to making a difference through the co-ordination of their future activities through this plan.

Said Clr. Maurice Hughes, the leader of Pembrokeshire County Council - the lead authority in the partnership: "The plan highlights the key 'quality of life' issues that we would like to make progress on in the future, and particularly during the next five years.

"The plan proposes a simple vision for the county: that Pembrokeshire should be a wonderful place to live and visit."

One of the community involvement activities which has led up to the production of the plan was a residents survey. The survey revealed many interesting views from Pembrokeshire people, covering diverse topics including transport, community life, health and the environment. A survey of young people has been completed, and further community involvement activity is planned for the future.
