A Pembrokeshire County Councillor has questioned the amount of temporary traffic lights that are in operation across his ward, on the first day of the school summer holidays.

County Councillor for Pembroke St Mary South and Monkton, Cllr Jonathan Grimes shared: “Like many of the people who've contacted me today, I can't believe the sheer number of roadworks across Pembroke.

“It feels like Black Monday...or perhaps Red, Amber and Green Monday!

“Today (July 20) alone we've seen traffic lights at: Grove Hill; The Commons; South Quay; Golden Hill; and Bush Hill, with the gas works, is still to come.

“To reassure residents, I've already been in contact with Pembrokeshire County Council about the works within the ward I represent, making it clear that disruption must be kept to an absolute minimum.”

Cllr Grimes said that he hoped fellow County Councillors Aaron Carey County Councillor for Pembroke Monkton & St Mary South, Cllr Mel Phillips and Cllr Jon Harvey will join him in asking a simple question - why is all of this happening at the same time?

“The impact on Pembroke's businesses is significant, and for residents simply trying to get around town, it's becoming incredibly frustrating. Better coordination is needed,” continued Cllr Grimes.

Cllr Jon Harvey, county councillor for Pembroke St Mary North responded, stating: “Jonathan, I have indeed expressed my concerns about the timing of these works to Officers during the course of last week.

“I have been informed that highway officers will be in attendance this week to monitor the manned lights on Bush Hill in terms of traffic flows and minimising waiting times. I have also requested that the lights be removed on weekends if no work is taking place.

“Whilst fully appreciating the necessity of the works, Pembroke has had more than its fair share over the last few months and coming through today there was quite a delay.”
