The second meeting in February was the final one of the current 'Probus Year'. March will see the rejuvenated, refreshed and resplendent team of club officers striving to maintain, and possibly improve, the standards of entertainment and pleasure for which the Pembroke Probus Club is noted.
I feel that it is important to mention here the main purpose of the Pembroke Probus Club. It is to provide a regular meeting place for the members of the club and in so doing provide and encourage good fellowship. My personal view, based on several years experience of the club, is that it is eminently successful.
Commercial over, but the Pembroke Probus Club does just as it says on the can.
The main feature of this annual meeting is an illustrated retrospective of the year, produced and presented by club member Kenneth Homfray. Kenneth, along with Morgan Allen, are the club archivists and as, almost, a side-effect of their activities, members are treated to an audio visual feast of the club activities.
It would need a complete page, or possibly two, to do justice to this event. However, I understand that copies are, or will be, lodged with the county archivist. Certainly looking down the list of club events I can only be impressed by their range and quality. Some have been and will continue to be controversial, no bad thing that, it certainly allows hobby horses to be ridden.
Another beneficial side-effect is to plug the hole in the dyke caused by the non show, for whatever reason, of a guest speaker. Recently, Kenneth did just this with a slide presentation of WWII aircraft, that he had stowed in his lay apart store. As usual it was, like many works emanating from the USA, slightly biased, i.e. no mention of RAF Bomber or Coastal Command. Suppose I am just a bit of a jingoist really.
