Pembroke Ladies Hockey Club played hosts to Aberystwyth University in the first round of the Welsh Cup. Aber had Pembroke on the back foot from the push back, but never really troubled the home defence of Victoria Scourfield, Katheryn Frazer, Brenda Scourfield, Tasha Lawrence and Julia Griffiths. Pembroke settled and started to create in the midfield, with Jenny Cadogan and Louise Tuberfield spreading the ball wide to Jackie Cadogan and Sian James, whose passes down the right flank caused problems to the Aber defence. This strong midfield platform set up play nicely for forwards Catherine Owen and Carys Jones, but Aber's defence held firm until half-time. Pembroke started the second period in determined mood and caused the Aber defence problems from the outset. From a short corner, an excellent strike by Carys Jones opened the scoring for the home side. Pembroke continued to attack strongly, but Aber counter-attacked and looked dangerous on the break. Hannah Thomas, playing her first season in Pembroke's first team, adapted well to the fast pace of the game and marked the Aber winger well. Pembroke continued to attack, resulting in them increasing their lead through an individual piece of skill from Louise Tuberfield. Many thanks to Bernie Wheeler for his continued support and coaching. Pembroke Ladies have drawn Cardiff Hockey Club at home in the next round. Team: Victoria Scourfield, Brenda Scourfield, Tasha Lawrence, Julia Griffiths, Hannah Thomas, Kathryn Frazer, Sian James, Jenny Cadogan, Louise Tuberfield, Jackie Cadogan, Carys Jones, Catherine Owen. • Pembroke Ladies Hockey Club are always looking for new members.
