Wednesday Night Spring series
The joint spring series of 10 races has now finished and a new series has begun to carry on over the summer. Results in Division One were especially close with three boats level on 12 points, and on the number of first places, so it came down to counting the number of second and thirds achieved to determine the overall placings. Results were as follows: Division One: 1. Inca (F. Fisher), 2. Maelstrom (D. McIntosh), 3. Partisan (D. Lewis); Division Two: 1. Cinnabar (R. Fleming), 2. Cirdan (J. Thompson), 3. Sea Gypsea (G. Lees).
Tenby Race
This year's annual race from Hobbs Point to Tenby took place on June 28. The race started at 10 am in virtually no wind. However, 17 yachts made the best of the few breaths of easterly breeze and by the time the fleet had mostly drifted down to Angle in the ebbing tide, the wind began to fill in from the north-west and the race got going. A spinnaker run ensued from Thorn Island as far as St. Govan's head, before a return to white sails was required to reach Caldey Island. The increasing wind favoured slower boats as they had good wind for longer. And so it was that once rounding Caldey Island and beating into the finish line, the top three finishers overall after handicap corrections were from the second division and the next three from the first division. Results were as follows: Division One: Jiminy Cricket (T. Skippins), 2. Serifos (R. Ayers), 3. Maelstrom (D. McIntosh); Division Two: 1. Leonore (A. Pritchard), 2. Slipstream (B. Shaw), 3. Acerra (J. Powell). Our thanks go to Tenby Sailing Club for setting up and operating the finish line, taxi-ing competitors to and fro the club and hosting the prize-giving, along with plenty of beer and BBQ food.
