A superb third wicket stand of 123 between Peter Hall and Dave Lovell helped Lamphey maintain top spot in the Ocky White Pembroke County Cricket League last weekend.
In a dress rehearsal for tomorrow's (Saturday's) Harrison-Allen Bowl final at Cresselly, the league leaders easily accounted for division one basement side and Bowl rivals Hook with an eight-wicket win.
With eight 4s in his tally of 45, Ben Field helped Hook to 166 all out, assisted by good knocks from Jamie Phelps (35), Mick Haltam (20), Keith James (18), Ian Lewis (13), Nick Absolom (14 n.o.) and Alistair Platten (10).
Skipper Dave Lovell proved a little expensive with the ball, with Hook grabbing 57 runs off his 10 overs, but he compensated by bagging four wickets. Geoff Cullen claimed 3 for 42, while T. Roberts, Haydn Cole and Ian Kerrison all picked up a wicket apiece.
Cullen got Lamphey off to a steady start with a quick 25, which included two 4s and two 6s. Gareth Lewis could only muster two, but then Hall and Lovell steered a steady course with 55 not out and 76 not out, respectively, Lovell sealing victory on 170 for 2 with his 11th boundary.
Haverfordwest kept up their challenge, maintaining second spot with a simple win over Lawrenny.
Put into bat Lawrenny were soon in trouble on 7 for 3 after losing early wickets at regular intervals and could only muster 119 all out thanks in the main to a solid captain's innings of 30 from Rob Williams, 26 from Ian Jenkins, 24 from Christian Phillips and a quick 16 from Andrew Cole Junior.
Pick of thr Town bowlers was Phil Kirkby, who took two wickets for just one run in three deliveries, while Clive Tucker took 2 for 38, Darren Brick 3 for 22, Paul Thomas 2 for 25 and Steve Phillips 1 for 30.
Jonathan Twigg, with an unbeaten half century, led the Haverfordwest reply, with Karl Rhead chipping in with 23 and Phil Sutton piling on 39 not out to take the Town to 120 for 2 in the 26th over.
Rob Wiliams and Owen Williams were the Lawrenny wicket-takers.
Despite a solid 53 from Davy Johns, Narberth could not find runs quickly enough and had to settle for a draw against Cresselly.
Batting first, Cresselly struggled to 66 for 4, aided for the most part by a solid 40 from Paul Luke and 11 from Simon Cole, before Hugh Griffiths (45) and Rob Sutton (41) steadied the ship with an impressive sixth wicket stand of 88 to see the villagers close on 174 for 7.
Wayne Howells and Greg Morris picked up two wickets apiece for Narberth, while Ian Hughes and Geoff Martin took one each.
Narberth lost early wickets cheaply in reply, with only Johns making any real impression, slamming nine 4s as he raced to his 53 in 79 balls before falling to the bowling of Luke.
Martin carried his bat for 16 to shore up the middle ranks and Hughes put on 22, but Narberth ran out of time, closing on 146 for 8.
Lyn Richards led Cresselly's bowling attack, taking 3 for 27, while Tim Haggar, H. Neil, Luke, Cole and Sutton all claimed a wicket apiece to keep their side in the hunt.
With games in hand, Folly Farm Kilgetty also kept in touch with the front runners with a comfortable win over division strugglers St. Ishmaels.
Opener Richard Thorne top scored for Tish with a solid 44, which included three 4s, while Glyn Griffiths, Graham Salter and Keith Pawlett all put on 17 each to help the basement battlers to 134 for 8 at the break.
Simon Wood took 3 for 35, Alan Hurst 3 for 45 and Adrian Griffiths 2 for 20 for Kilgetty.
Although Peter Johnson fell to Andrew Palmer for just three runs, a second wicket stand of 42 from Simon Wood and Geraint Davies settled things down, before Wood was claimed by Graham Salter off the bowling of Steve Williams on 20.
Davies went on to top score for Kilgetty, bagging a six and six 4s on his way to an unbeaten 53 off 103 balls.
Ian Poole failed to make an impression on the scoresheet, finding himself back in the pavilion after just four deliveries, but a steady 23 from Phil Jones and a controlled 24 not out from Graham Jenkins took Kilgetty to 135 for 4 and victory.
Palmer took 2 for 34 for Tish, while Williams and Salter shared the other Kilgetty wickets to fall.
In the day's remaining division one clash, Pembroke recorded a rare season double over Carew.
Lying third in the table before the start of play, Carew struggled to 124 for 7, with James Owen top scoring on 34 not out.
Nick Scourfield helped to keep the scoreboard ticking over with 13, Steve Cole added 18, Rob Scourfield 13 and Martyn Cole carried his bat for 20.
For Pembroke, Kevin Jenkins took 3 for 31, Spencer Harries 2 for 36 and Nigel Phillips and Gwyn Griffiths picked up a wicket each.
