Last weekend, Pembroke Castle hosted its first Flower Festival to commemorate the 370th anniversary of the Siege of Pembroke by Oliver Cromwell.

The Flower Festival, which ran for four days, featured floral displays charting the history of the castle, including tributes to the Siege as well as Pembroke’s Earls such as William Marshal, the Greatest Knight of the Middle Ages; and also Henry VII, who was born in the castle in 1457. On top of this, castle guide, Howard Rudge gave talks throughout each day of the festival on the history of the Siege of Pembroke, and Pembroke’s pivotal role in starting the Second Civil War.

The festival was a great success, and the spike in visitor numbers over the four days has encouraged the castle to host another Flower Festival in the future.

Pembroke Castle Trust would like to thank Sylvia Bevan, Susie Bulkeley, Becci Bevan, Melissa Brown, Victoria Bruce, Clarissa Burgess, Anne James, Meg Lawrence, Hazel Clode, Nicky Rogers, Christine Neve, Mike Bevan, Jason Kenniford, Terry John, Andrew Powell, Howard Rudge, Josie Lawrence, Isla Tasker, Meg Morgan, Diane Bosley and Di Poole for all of their hard work.
