The grant of £23,210 with other match funding will enable them to encourage local people to buy, grow and eat local and seasonal fruit and vegetables and to measure the difference it will make, not only to their individual carbon footprints, but to the whole community.
The project called Pembroke Food will be launched in Foundry House Community Centre in Pembroke on Tuesday, July 12.
The West Wales Eco Centre will present a Low Carbon Cook Off with two local teams and there will be talks from Mencap Gardens and the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens on growing fruit and vegetables.
In order to measure the difference the project will make, the group are collecting baseline information in a questionnaire which can be completed on-line.
The group will work to encourage local shops to stock more seasonal and local fruit and vegetables marked with a Local Food logo and recipe cards to help people to cook it. They will be promoting the project through Pembroke's Farmers Market and cookery demonstrations and there will be a dedicated website where local people can make on-line pledges and submit on-line food diaries, as well as getting loads of information, tips and ideas.
