The penultimate round of the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock LVA Quiz League produced no real surprises and promises a cracking end to an enjoyable season. With all the teams playing in the final round, the pressure is on the top two teams.
With the pacesetters from the outset, the Alma B, having a bye, both the Station B and Cosh Brewery took advantage with demolitions of the Alma A and Con Club, respectively, to move into first and second places in the league, the Station B being the week's top scores.
The pressure cooker on Sunday will be the Cosh Brewery where the Station B travel to meet the resident side in a game that will decide the champions for 2012. The homesters will also be looking for revenge, having lost earlier in the season at the Station B by just three points in a high-scoring match.
The Alma B can, however, take some sort of consolation from the fact that, regardless of the outcome at Cosh, they can take the runners-up spot provided they win at the Station A, but if they lose, their season is in tatters and, depending on the match score, could slip to fourth.
In the remaining games, the Station A travelled to the Charlton to play their A team and came away with a 14-point win, whilst the Charlton B went to Pembroke to play the Oak and came home with a creditable nine-point victory. The remaining encounter resulted in a high-scoring draw at the St. Govan's where the Naval Club were the visitors.
The week's results in full were: Charlton A 59 Station A 73; Station B 82 Alma A 54; Con Club 27 Cosh Brewery 74; St. Govan's 79 Naval Club 79 and Oak 66 Charlton B 75.
