Approaching this sleepy and remote village you will pass through the hamlet of Cresswell Quay with its quaint village inn and quiet river views.
In Lawrenny village, bear to the left. The lane skirts the Cresswell River and there are superb views of wide tidal creeks and rich low lying pastures all the way to the Lawrenny yacht station.
Beyond this, the car park affords magnificent views of the River Cleddau - the heart of the inland section of the National Park. Walk along the small shingle beach to the low point and more spectacular river views unfold. You are now looking out on to the Daugleddau.
Upstream is Castle Reach, with the white battlemented towers of Benton Castle rearing out of the thick oak woods which clothe the banks opposite. There is no public access.
On returning to Lawrenny village, bear left and drive through the gates of the old estate, past the church on your left.
The peace and quiet of this spot, and its glorious views, well justify the small detour and provide you with a taste of the rural heart of Pembrokeshire.
