Paul Sartori Hospice at Home is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects. Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.
Paul Sartori Hospice at Home is one of the groups on the shortlist. Paul Sartori applied to the fund to help patients with a terminal illness and their families receive the end of life care and support in Pembrokeshire they deserve by contributing towards the home nursing care team.
“Every year, the number of hours we deliver in the county of Pembrokeshire is rising - during 2016/17 the Paul Sartori Home Nursing Care team delivered 19,943 hours. That is just over 380 hours per week in the county,” highlighted Pat Coombs, clinical coordinator at Paul Sartori, adding: “This Tesco scheme is a great way of local people supporting this growing need in our county.”
Voting is open in Haverfordwest Extra and Goodwick Express Tesco stores throughout May and June. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.
Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £43 million to more than 10,000 projects up and down the UK. Tesco customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop. Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.
The Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service provides a range of services to Pembrokeshire people living in the final stages of a life limiting illness, including home nursing care, equipment loan, complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, clinical nurse specialist in palliative care, physiotherapy, advance care planning and training. Services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, thanks to the kind generosity of the Pembrokeshire community.
