Bright-thinking businessman, Pat Watts, has switched on to a brilliant fund-raising idea in the run-up to Christmas.
Pat, who runs New Hedges Post Office and Londis store, is asking people to sponsor a light bulb on the village's magnificent Christmas tree to raise money for the Noah's Ark Appeal for the Children's Hospital of Wales.
Pat and his wife, Mary, have supplied the 20-foot tree which stands outside the Village Hall, plus all its 100 coloured bulbs, together with 40 lights on the hall's adjoining garage.
"As this could be our last Christmas at the shop, we wanted to do something for charity and came up with the idea of asking people to sponsor a light bulb, with the proceeds then going to the Children's Hospital of Wales," explained Mary.
"We have had a wonderful response so far and people's generosity has been excellent."
Anyone who would like to sponsor a bulb is asked to call in at the shop.
