A petition has been launched in Narberth against the Town Moor car park becoming Pay and Display. County councillor Wynne Evans has started the petition against the possible charges and hopes to get at least 2,000 signatures. Clr. Evans spent most of Winter Carnival Day getting signitures from local shoppers. He hopes to have his target of signatures by the end of this month to send to County Hall in an attempt to stop Pembrokeshire County Council putting forward any future proposals to introduce charging. "The fight starts here and it will be a fight," said Clr. Evans. "Although the decision of the Welsh Assembly on the application by the county council to have the car park area lose its Village Green status, thus allowing the council to go into a 42-day consultation period about charges, has not yet been made, this petition is in readiness for any decision," he explained. Clr. Evans added that it had now been clarified that the county council would not be applying for loss of Village Green status for the play area on the Town Moor. "This is no longer under threat, but secure for future generations," he said. "I have to say a big thank you to all those involved in giving me such wonderful support by organising another petition to protect the recreation area. It clearly shows that all bodies in the town are working together for the same objective to work for the benefit of the town. I am truly grateful."

Council against Village Green status loss

Members of Narberth Town Council were also against any part of the Town Moor losing its Village Green status when they discussed the matter at their monthly meeting on Tuesday. Clr. Henry Langen called for the council to object 100 per cent to the Town Moor losing its Village Green status. "If at any time an attempt should be made to take the Village Green status from the Town Moor, we will strongly object and so will the people of Narberth," said Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees.
