Sir,
With regard to Clr. Rob Lewis's letter (Observer, March 14) in response to my own about the council vehicle parking outside the Co-operative store in Kilgetty, firstly I would like to point out that I was not having a go at the driver, but the council for not being able to police their own policies.
Secondly, the idea was to try and prick the conscience of the council to actually take note and address the problem.
I have contacted the parking enforcement department of PCC regarding this; they cannot unfortunately be there at all times and have absolved themselves of responsibility should an accident occur, despite the fact they admit on the PCC website they are responsible for parking enforcement.
I have spoken to John Price, head of highways, who was quite happy with the idea suggested to alleviate the problem, "but alas it is down to funding Mr. Mitchell," and following a phone call on April 6 to advise him it was the new financial year, the answer was, "the new funding isn't for that. The National Assembly pay for that!"
Following a call to them, I was told, "yes, we would; PCC just need to apply."
To top it all, when I questioned the local county councillor in the Co-op one Sunday morning, his reply was, "that was the biggest thing mentioned when I was canvassing for votes!"
I have been spoken to or contacted regarding this parking matter and each time told, yes, it does need sorting!
So Clr. Lewis, perhaps you need to look into this and maybe we can get it sorted - sooner rather than later.
Dave Mitchell,
Begelly resident
