The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority is taking another turn along the 'green' road by trialling a car of the future - powered by electricity and petrol.
Park staff have recently had the opportunity to try out a Toyota Prius GLS Hybrid saloon which is among the new generation of 'hybrid' vehicles powered by both electric and petrol.
The National Park already operates three Vauxhall vans for the Ranger service and two Ford Fiesta pool cars - all of which are dual liquid petroleum gas/petrol powered.
The 'verdict' from many staff who tried out the Prius was very positive.
"It was rated highly," said the Park's fleet management officer Hugh Bowen. "Comments made after the test runs were mostly complimentary. The car performed very well and returned around 50 miles per gallon. Its most unusual feature was its silence when the electric motor automatically cut in - you had to remember that the car was still running!"
The National Park is committed to adopting a sustainable transport policy and is looking to replace the current generation of vans and pool cars with new 'green' fuel alternatives.
